The mimic monster shudders faintly as your body goes limp - you're not sure if that means it's reconsidering its meal or if it's amused by your attempts to get away. Its wooden jaw tightens around you as it finally skids to a landing at the very bottom of the chasm, but it doesn't crush you. Then, to your utter shock, it drops you harmlessly in the mud.
You leap to your feet and back away, watching it for any signs of movement. It crouches and watches you, eyes glittering. Is it going to toy with you? Knock you around before devouring you?
A small rivulet, a remnant of the creek from far above flows shallowly towards the chasm wall. Out of the corner of your eye, you think you can make out a hint of daylight where it cuts through the rock. Maybe there's a way out of this after all...
